The Lash Factor

Mascara and false lashes are big news at the moment as celebrities are setting the lashtastic agenda. From the X Factor judges and contestants, to their fans of all ages, everyone wants lashings of Hollywood glamour.
“In the past two or three years I don’t think I have made up a celebrity without lashes – at their request. I think they feel better once they have the lashes on, it gives them confidence,” Jackie recently told FT Style. “It goes back to the Hollywood glamour of the 1930s and 1940s, when all the stars had lash inserts. That lasted until the 1960s, when Twiggy took the false lash look to the extreme, wearing several sets together.”
“My two teenage daughters always ask if they can wear false lashes if they are going to a party – and they already have long lashes,” says Jackie. “People want to emulate their favourite stars.”
As the X Factor’s Chief Make-Up Artist, Jackie has been using false lashes every week within this year’s live weekend shows. “Every Saturday, Stacey (Solomon) and I have our usual hilarious debate because she wants the biggest, thickest false eyelashes I have and I try and convince her it looks better on screen if the lashes are more natural!”
“I often use the Girls Aloud range for Eylure which are really easy to use and although Eylure’s Individual Lashes are trickier, they can give a more natural look.”
Follow Jackie’s tips for applying individual lashes:
Put a drop of glue on the edge of the lashes and wait for 20 secs for them to go tacky.
Then apply by resting on your natural lashes, pushing the glued end into the roots of your own lashes.
Start at the outside corner of your eye and more towards the centre.
Sometimes just 3 or 4 inserts are all you need to make your eyes look extremely glam.
